Narrative is the way that stories are told.
There are classic narrative patterns that Tzvetan Todorov discovered.
They are:
Equilibrium- all is in order "normal, and happy
Disruption- A disruption to the equilibrium by the means of an event/action
Recognition- There is recognition that a disruption has taken place
Repair- An attempt to repair the damage caused by disruption
New equilibrium- The problem is solved and we return to the a new type of equilibrium
Here is an example from the movie 'Jaws'
Jaws-Trailer
Equilibrium- Loads of people drinking, having fun
Disruption- The girl goes swimming, the shark comes and gets her
Recognition- The girl has disappeeared, its all silent
Repair- Does not go swimming in the sea
New Equilibrium- It starts again, the shark comes back
This relates to my opening sequence, as my genre for my opening sequence is Horror.
